Psychedelic country

Psychedelic country is a music genre combining psychedelic rock with country rock. Ultimate Classic Rock described the style as "A musical style that held sway for a thankfully brief moment on the West Coast".[1][lower-alpha 1] Artists tagged as psychedelic country include: The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gene Clark, Gram Parsons, and The Monkees, among others.[2] American rock band The Byrds may be one of the earliest psychedelic country bands.

Popularity

Psychedelic country was not as popular as its parent genres of country rock and psychedelic rock. The genre was very short lived in comparison to country rock and psychedelic rock, and many artists who perform this style of music today are now mostly lumped into the alternative country or southern rock labels.

Musical Style

The genre tends to incorporate standard country rock instrumentation along with musical styles inspired by psychedelic rock.
