Career

Domestic career

Płacheta started his youth career for Polish side Pelikan Łowicz.[2] He joined ŁKS Łódź after his father saw an advert in a newspaper for young footballers.[3] Later, he played for RB Leipzig Academy in Germany,[4][5] during which time he played for the senior side in a number of friendly matches.[6] In 2017, Płacheta made his professional debut for German 3. Liga team Sonnenhof Großaspach.[7] He later returned to Poland as his mother was ill. He then played for Pogoń Siedlce.[8]

Prior to the 2018–19 I liga, Płacheta signed for Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała,[9] and made 25 appearances for the club that season.[10] In 2019, Płacheta signed for Śląsk Wrocław for around 300,000 Polish złoty.[8] He signed a three-year contract with the club.[10] During a pre-season tour, Płacheta reached a speed of 35.22 kilometres per hour (21.88 mph), the highest recorded speed for any Polish league player that pre-season.[11] In the 2019–20 I liga, he scored eight goals in 35 appearances,[4][7] and provided five assists.[5] In July 2020, Płacheta signed for English club Norwich City,[7] on a four-year deal.[4][2] The deal is estimated to be around €3 million[2][5] (around 12 million złoty),[12] a club record sale for Śląsk Wrocław.[12][13] Płacheta is Norwich's first ever Polish player.[4]

International career

Płacheta has made one appearance for Poland under-21s in a 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship match against Spain under-21s in Italy.[10][8] He was the youngest player in Czesław Michniewicz's Poland under-21 squad.[10]

Personal life

Płacheta was born on 23 March 1998 in Łowicz, Poland.[10] When Płacheta was young, he was a bobsledder, before choosing to become a footballer.[8] Płacheta has said that he is a fan of Manchester City footballer Raheem Sterling, and has compared his playing style to Sterling.[5][14] His older brother Marcin is a former runner and bobsledder who competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics.[8][6] His other older brother Sylwester has played football for MKS Kutno.[6] Their mother died in 2019.[8]

gollark: Anyway, soon I will unlock stemocytes, hopefully, which are very fun.
gollark: Well, it did look cool.
gollark: It also created giant "tails" of near-dead photocytes.
gollark: For the "slippery slope" one I actually just made something with one glueocyte and a ton of photocytes, which... is sloppy and inelegant but good enough to work.
gollark: Fascinating.
