The station would serve areas of Blanchardstown, Clonsilla and Carpenterstown. The heavy rail station would be located on the Maynooth Line and would have Commuter services operating to Mullingar and Navan from both Dublin Connolly and Docklands, as well as high frequency DART services.

The Dublin Metro is a proposed light rail operation, with the station intended to be built on an elevated section over the railway line and adjacent Royal Canal.[2] The Metro West line was indefinitely postponed in late 2011, as no capital funding is available.
