"Popular Monster" is a song by American rock band Falling in Reverse. It was released on November 20, 2019. The music video for the song has more than 25 million views on YouTube. The song has over 40 million plays on Spotify.[1] The song is currently ranked number 4 on the US Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and number 1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart.[2] It is currently the most listened to rock song on radio in the United States.[3]

Background
The song was written and composed by Ronnie Radke. The video for the song shows Ronnie exploring his demons as he is chased by police, eventually transforming into a werewolf.[4]
Chart performance
The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, No. 15 on the Rock Airplay chart, and No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart,[5]. On the Billboard Canada Rock chart, the song peaked on No. 38, while in on the UK Rock & Metal Singles chart, it peaked at No. 17. In June 2020, Billboard introduced two new rock charts, with "Popular Monster" becoming the first song to top the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart and peaking at No. 11 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart.[6]
Composition and lyrics
The song was composed and written by Ronnie Radke, Cody Quistad and Tyler Smyth, the song talks about Ronnie exploring his demons to finally become a werewolf. Ronnie Radke says about song: "'Popular Monster' is the voice inside my head, waiting for you to hear it. It is the story of a hero who has been falsely accused and destroyed by society. Show what happens when you've been pushed too hard. You become exactly what they say you are exactly what they want you to be, a monster." Radke said that to write the lyrics he was inspired by the film Joker.
