Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010

Poland selected its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 on 14 February 2010. Telewizja Polska (TVP) held a national selection, Krajowe Eliminacje, to select the Polish entry for the contest, which was held in Oslo, Norway from 25 to 29 May 2010.

Before Eurovision

Krajowe Eliminacje 2010

Krajowe Eliminacje 2010 was the national final organised by TVP in order to select the Polish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The show took place on 14 February 2010 at the TVP Headquarters in Warsaw, hosted by Aleksandra Rosiak and Artur Orzech.

Format

The contest was almost identical to last year's Polish final, Piosenka dla Europy, however a number of changes had been made to the format: the professional jury used in previous years was abolished, and public televoting would exclusively select the winner. Televoting lines would be open from the beginning of the first performance, as with the Eurovision Song Contest itself.[1]

Competing entries

TVP opened a submission period for interested artists and songwriters to submit their entries until 2 November 2009. All artists were required to be Polish and Polish songwriters were preferred.[2][3] The broadcaster received 122 submissions at the closing of the deadline. A ten-member selection committee selected four entries from the received submissions to compete in the national final.[4] The selection committee consisted of Wojciech Hoflik, Maria Szabłowska, Paweł Sztompke, Krzysztof Szewczyk, Boleslaw Pawica, Artur Orzech, Marek Lamprecht, Piotr Klatt, Mikołaj Dobrowolski and Tomasz Deszczyński.[5] The selected entries were announced on 25 November 2009. On 11 December 2009, the band PIN withdrew from the competition.[6]

An additional seven wildcard entries were selected (VIR[7][8], Sonic Lake, Nefer[9], Iwona Węgrowska, ZoSia, Leszcze[10] and Marcin Mroziński[11]) after TVP opened an additional submission period.[12] The wildcards were announced between 27 November 2009 and 28 January 2010.[13]

Final

The final took place on 14 February 2010. Ten entries competed and the winner, "Legenda" performed by Marcin Mroziński, was determined entirely by a public vote, receiving 33.61% of the final vote. Anna Cyzon came second with 15.13% and Iwona Węgrowska came third with 14.94%.[14][15]

At Eurovision

Poland competed in the first semi-final of the contest, on 25 May 2010,performed 9th, following Bosnia and Herzegovina and preceding the Belgium,the Polish entry scored a total of 44 points and placed 13th, thus failing to qualify for the final on 29 May 2010.
