Piedra is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hinsdale County, Colorado, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 28.[1]

A post office called Piedra was established in 1879, and remained in operation until 1927.[2] Piedra is a name derived from Spanish meaning "stone".[3]

Geography

The Piedra CDP occupies the southeast corner of Hinsdale County in the valley of the Piedra River within San Juan National Forest. It is at the southern edge of the San Juan Mountains. The CDP is 18 miles (29 km) west of Pagosa Springs.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has an area of 11.6 square miles (30.1 km2), all land.[4]
