Club career

Born in Madrid, de Felipe arrived at Real Madrid in 1964 at the age of 20, from Community of Madrid neighbours Rayo Vallecano, playing only four La Liga games in his first season but making a combined 45 appearances the following two, winning the 1965–66 European Cup in the process while taking part in seven complete matches.[1]

On 28 September 1967, after playing three games with a damaged meniscus, de Felipe successfully underwent surgery, spending several months on the sidelines.[2] He still managed to be regularly used during two of his last four years at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, leaving the club in 1972 and playing a further six top-level seasons with RCD Español, retiring at 34.

A tough tackler – sometimes to excess[2]– de Felipe severely injured FC Barcelona's Miguel Ángel Bustillo on 14 September 1969, in a 3–3 home draw. The scorer of two early goals, Bustillo was only able to appear in three league matches for the club in as many seasons.[3][4]

International career

De Felipe earned one cap for Spain, playing the full 90 minutes in a 0–0 friendly draw to Turkey on 17 October 1973, in Istanbul.[5]

Death

De Felipe died on 12 April 2016 in Madrid, due to cancer. He was 71 years old.[6]

gollark: I'm probably just going to be eternally stuck with advancing and somewhat bad modern computers plus random fiddling with other ones.
gollark: Which are still general purpose computers.
gollark: You aren't going to produce your own usably sized FPGA *or* recent CPU so it's probably most sensible to just go for really common and more practical devices.
gollark: FPGAs remain quite costly and niche.
gollark: Much more readily available, very multipurpose, still pretty fast.
