Background

Just like Paloma San Basilio's 1985 entry "La fiesta terminó" and Sergio y Estíbaliz's 1975 entry "Tú volverás", the song was composed by Juan Carlos Calderón, internationally best known for writing Mocedades' 1973 entry "Eres tú", a song that only finished second in the actual Contest but still went on to become a worldwide hit.[2]

"Nacida para amar" is a sensual love song, with Nina describing a romantic night with her lover. She thanks him for that special night they spent "body-to-body" and says that she is very grateful for their relationship.[3]

Eurovision

"Nacida para amar" was performed sixteenth on the night, following France's Nathalie Pâque with "J'ai volé la vie" and preceding Cyprus's Fani Polymeri & Yannis Savvidakis with "Apopse As Vrethume". At the close of voting, it had received 88 points, placing 6th in a field of 22.[4]

It was succeeded as Spanish entry at the 1990 Contest by Azúcar Moreno with "Bandido".[5]

Luis Miguel version

Mexican singer Luis Miguel's 1990 album 20 Años includes a cover of the song titled "Amante del Amor", keeping the same melody but with altered lyrics.
