History
After 18 months of preparation, the academy was launched in 2013 by coach Neal Hopkins, attracting twenty four players in its first cohort. [1] [2] In its inaugural season the club would compete in the Elite Academy Basketball League and partnered with BBL side Manchester Giants to offer playing opportunities in the country's top league.
The academy won its first national title just one season later, lifting the 2015 EABL National Championship. [3]
For the 2018-19 season, Myerscough entered the FIBA-endorsed European Youth Basketball League. [4] In their first season, the team came within the narrowest of margins of winning the Championship, losing in the Superfinal. In the 2019-20 season, the team were champions of the regular season with a 14-1 record, qualifying for the Superfinal as top seeds and becoming the first-ever British team at any level to be crowned European champions. [5] [6]
Arena
The Academy is housed in the £3.2 million state-of-the-art Pure Leisure High Performance Centre for Sport, which opened on the Myerscough College campus in 2016. [7]
