Life and education
Qadir received his early education from Shujabad, Multan. He received his B.Pharm degree from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. Later he attended Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and received his Ph.D degree in subject of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.[5][6]
He worked in the College of Pharmacy, Government College University (Faisalabad).[7][8]
He then became a researcher and professor at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan.[9] There, he is heading "Phage Therapy & Drug Design Laboratory" of Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.[10]
Research contributions
Qadir invented a medical test, known as the Qadir test, for diagnosis of cancer.[6][11] In this test, the plasma lipid profile of the patient is analysed.[12][13]
His work also includes invention of anti-HIV drugs, Qadirvirtide[14][15][16][17] and Qadir-C30.[18][19][20]
He has posed that viruses are the cause of cancer, the idea presented as a theory of cancer etiology.[21][22][23][24]
He discovered local bacteriophages to be used as anti-bacterial products.[25][26][27] and new genes in local fungi which are helpful in curing skin diseases caused by these local fungi.[28]
He has published more than 500 research articles,[29][30][31] near 150 of them published in highly indexed journals.[32][33][34][35]
He has written 15 medical books. He has established the use of many local plants in the treatment of cancer, jaundice, hepatitis, hypertension, asthma, diabetes, and infectious diseases of bacterial and fungal origin.[36]
He is an HEC approved supervisor for PhD research in Pakistan.[9][37] He is editor of many scientific journals.[38][39][40][41] He has contributed in health-related community awareness programs.[42][43] He has worked on phonetics and gave an idea that an alphabet should be pronounced exactly as it is pronounced in a word.[44]
Qadir has contributed to different anticancer techniques including the use of androgen deprivation therapy to cure prostate cancer, synthetic peptides in liver cancer management, the CRISPR/Cas9 gene targeting for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), IGF-1R blockers in prostate and colon carcinomas, and nanoparticles for cancer management.[45]
Awards and recognition
Qadir was named best young research scholar by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan,[46][47] and Productive Scientist of Pakistan, by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology (Pakistan).[48][49] He received the Research Productivity Award, by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology (Pakistan).[50] He has also received a gold medal in the field of biotechnology from Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS).[51][52][53][54]
Fellowships and membership
Qadir is a Fellow of The Linnean Society of London, UK.[55] He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology[56] the International Dermoscopy Society (IDSS), Italy,[57] and the French Society for Cell Biology.[58] He is also member of other healthcare-related global societies.[59]
