Politics

The municipal council consists of ninety members elected by mixed-member proportional representation. Forty-five councillors are elected by first-past-the-post voting in forty-five wards, while the remaining forty-five are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. In the election of 3 August 2016 the African National Congress (ANC) won a majority of sixty-nine seats on the council.

The following table shows the results of the election.[7][8]

gollark: Floating points do that all the time.
gollark: `is` is weird object equality, it doesn't really count.
gollark: It has integers as a distinct thing from floats, and they're bigints.
gollark: Python has a bigint type for its integers.
gollark: Yes it does?
