Club career

Early career

Mark Village was born on November 25, 1991 in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. He began his soccer career playing for the Abbotsford Mariners in 2012.[1]

Village attended University of the Fraser Valley, where he played goalkeeper for the UFV Cascades. In the 2012–13 season, he was named to the Canada West Second Team All-Star team and also named as MVP for UFV.[2]

Whitcaps FC 2

On March 25, 2015, Village signed as a free agent with Whitecaps FC 2, a United Soccer League club based in Vancouver. Whitecaps 2 re-signed Village for the 2017 season on March 17, 2017.[3]

Village made his professional debut for Whitecaps 2 on October 7, 2017, when he played the full 90 minutes of an away match against Real Monarchs. In the 5th minute, Village made a diving save to deny a goal attempt by Daniel Haber. This save was later selected as the USL Fans' Choice Save of the Month for October 2017.[4]

FC Cincinnati

On November 21, 2017, Village transferred across the USL by signing with FC Cincinnati.[5] This was Village's second time playing under FC Cincinnati head coach Alan Koch, as Koch had been the head coach of Whitecaps FC 2 from 2015 to 2016.[2]

Pacific FC

Village joined Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League on January 21, 2019.[6] He played in Pacific’s first ever game on April 28, 2019 and kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over HFX Wanderers FC, the first clean sheet in league history. [7] On November 4, 2019 the club announced it would not be offering Village a contract for the following season.[8]

Coaching career

On February 28, 2020, Village announced his retirement from professional football, and that he would be remaining with Pacific as the club's goalkeeper coach under new manager Pa-Modou Kah.[9]
