Route

The M4 begins at the intersection with the R102 (Grahamstown Road) as Baxter Street in Deal Party and goes towards coast. It intersects with Burman Road and turns southward at the intersection becoming Burman Road. It meets the N2 at an interchange south of Deal Party and becomes Settlers Way (or Freeway) and a dual carriageway freeway. It heads south and passes through Sydenham, North End, Port Elizabeth Central and ends as a freeway at the intersection with the M9 in South End. After the intersection it becomes Humewood Road before it enters Humewood and then changes to Beach Road when it intersects with Driftsands Drive. It enters Summerstrand and after the intersection with Lodge Road, the name of the road changes to Marine Drive (remains so until the end of the route). After leaving Summerstrand and the city of Port Elizabeth it diverts westwards away from the coast but returns to the coast in Noordhoek, passes through the seaside village of Willows and ends at the intersection with the M18 (Victoria Drive) in Schoemakerskop.[1][2][3][4][5]
