History

Located east of the Moorook Game Reserve, Loveday was known for its Internment Camp during World War II.[4] The camp was established in 1941 and was one of the largest in Australia, covering approximately 180 hectares.[5] Italian anti-fascist activist Francesco Fantin was killed there by a fellow internee. The camp was closed in December 1946.

The Cobdogla Irrigation and Steam Museum has a substantial display devoted to the Loveday internment camp, maintained by the National Trust (check their website for open days).

The historic Loveday Internment Camp General Headquarters Site in Thiele Road and Brick Boiler Stack, Loveday Irrigation Scheme Pumping Station in Morris Street are listed on the South Australian Heritage Register.[6][7]

Loveday was named after Ernest Alfred Loveday, a surveyor in the South Australian Irrigation Department.[8]

Today Loveday is a popular 4 x 4 adventure park.[9] Loveday is close to the Murray River lagoons, known as the "Loveday Lagoons".

gollark: If you were to divert it, you would deprive the world of the loop-da-loop unless you divert more trollies.
gollark: This is good, as it gets you the loop-da-loop, which is totally sick.
gollark: Probably. I think it's required by some law or other, or at least they decided to interpret it that way.
gollark: It is apparently blocked as over-18 content, which makes a slight bit of sense because it could let you access some indirectly, but seriously why.
gollark: The wikipedia page for `The Underground History of American Education` seems to have archive.org links to some stuff, but naturally my mobile network blocks archive.org because that makes sense and is an entirely reasonable thing to do.
