  1. Certain award groups do not simply award one winner. They recognize several different recipients, have runners-up and have third place. Since this is a specific recognition and is different from losing an award, runner-up mentions are considered wins in this award tally. For simplification and to avoid errors, each award in this list has been presumed to have had a prior nomination.

He came to international attention for his country rap single "Old Town Road", which first achieved viral popularity on the micro-platform video sharing app TikTok in early 2019, and was Diamond certified by November the same year.[lower-alpha 1][1][2][3] The song reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for nineteen weeks, the longest for any song since the chart debuted in 1958.[4][5][6][7] In June 2019, Nas X came out as gay, the only artist ever to have done so while having a number-one record.[8][9] "Old Town Road" earned him two MTV Video Music Awards including Song of the Year; the American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song; and Nas X is the only openly LGBTQ artist to win a Country Music Association award.[10][11][12] He won two Grammy Awards, for Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance along with being nominated for a total of six, the most for any male in 2019.[13][14] TIME placed him on their inaugural TIME 100 Next list.[15] Nas X was also named by Forbes on their 2020 30 under 30 list.[16]

He was nominated for five fan-chosen 2019 Teen Choice Awards, winning Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song for the Cyrus remix of "Old Town Road".[17][lower-alpha 2] "Old Town Road" is also the YouTube top song of the summer in the U.S. and over fifty other countries and territories; it is also their second top global song of the summer.[19] Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ remix also won the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards collaboration category, CMA Music Event of the Year; Nas X is the first out gay man to ever be nominated for a CMA award, and the only openly LGBTQ person to win.[20][21][12] Vox noted the Event Award is not a part of the CMA televised celebration, and they snubbed Nas X from bigger appropriate categories.[22] The "Old Town Road" remix with Cyrus has been nominated for a People's Choice Award for Song of 2019, Nas X is also nominated for Male Artist of 2019; the 45th People's Choice Awards will be held in November 2019.[23] In October, at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards Nas X, with Cyrus, won for Best Collab/Duo or Group, and Single of the Year.[24][25][lower-alpha 3] Also in October 2019, Nas X's label Columbia Records/Sony Music Entertainment, won the Music & Sound Recordings Award from SAG-AFTRA for “Old Town Road (Remix)” featuring Cyrus; the awards are presented “for work that exemplifies equal access” of LGBTQ and “other misrepresented or underrepresented groups.”[26] In November 2019, Nas X won the American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song, he was nominated for four others including three for “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.[lower-alpha 4][27] In November 2019, Nas X was nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist, and eventually won Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.[14] Lil Nas X' success caused him to become the first person of color and the first openly gay performer to be listed by Forbes in its annual Highest-Paid Country Acts List.[28][29]

Lil Nas X received his first Grammy Award nominations at the 62nd annual ceremony, with himself being nominated for Best New Artist while his debut extended play (EP) 7 garnered a nomination for Album of the Year. Additionally, "Old Town Road (Remix) won him the Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video, while also being nominated for Record of the Year. Furthermore, "Panini" earned a nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance.[30]
