Notes

  2. Established season 1990/91
  3. During the early days of the Scottish Cup non league clubs needed to qualify via the Qualifying Cup. For this purpose the Second Division was considered non league.
  4. During World War I the Second Division was suspended. Cowdenbeath joined one of the regional leagues the Eastern Football League (Scotland).
  5. Eastern League decided to close down until the end of the conflict
  6. The Second Division wasn't restarted after the War. The second division clubs joined the recreated Central Football League. This lasted one season only before the Scottish Second Division was restarted.
  7. League suspended due to outbreak of World War 2 clubs joined Emergency Eastern Division
  8. Scottish Cup was suspended due to outbreak of World War 2. It returned in 1945–46 with the Victory Cup, the following season the Scottish Cup restarted in full.
  9. Cowdenbeath joined the Eastern Emergency League however withdrew and closed down until after the war due to heavy financial losses
  10. Cowdenbeath did not enter Wartime Leagues and choose to close down for duration of conflict
  11. After the war Cowdenbeath joined the Southern Football League (Scotland) for the Victory season.
  12. An end of season Cup competition was introduced in 1940-41, called the Southern League Cup. This became the League Cup in 1946-47.
  13. The Scottish Football League was restarted in 1946–47. The league decided to follow the previous seasons Southern League format. This meant Cowdenbeath were put into the Second Division, despite qualifying for the First Division before the war.
  14. Competition not held due to lack of sponsor.
  15. Relegated via play-offs.
  16. Promoted via play-offs.
  17. Cowdenbeath entered the League Two play-offs; they won in the two-legged final against East Kilbride to remain in League Two.
  18. Cowdenbeath entered the League Two play-offs; they won in the two-legged final against Cove Rangers to remain in League Two.
