The municipality covers an area of 8.19 square kilometres (3.16 sq mi), and has a population of 1,680 (as at 1 January 2011).
Libhošť lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) north-east of Nový Jičín, 27 km (17 mi) south-west of Ostrava, and 268 km (167 mi) east of Prague.
Village Libhošť was to 2010 part of the town of Nový Jičín. On 1 January 2011 the village separated from Nový Jičín and became an independent municipality.
