Lalduhawma

Lalduhawma (born 22 February 1949) is an Indian politician. He is the founder and president of Zoram Nationalist Party, a political party based in the Indian state of Mizoram.

Early life

He is the son of Vaisanga (L) and his wife Sailovi, who have three children and reside in Chawlhhmun Veng, Aizawl, Mizoram. He completed his Bachelor's degree with distinction.

Career

From 1972 to 1977 he worked as Principal Assistant to the Chief Minister. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1977.

He quit his job to join the Indian National Congress party in 1984 as Vice Chairman of Mizoram State Planning Board. He was elected in 1984 as Member of Parliament. He formed Mizo National Union (MNU) which later merged with Mizoram People's Conference and was made working President. He joined Mizo National Front as Advisory. He later left to form Zoram Nationalist Party. He was elected as MLA from Ratu in the 2003 Elections. In 2018 MLA elections, he won two seats, defeating veteran incumbents in both constituencies.[1]

He is the current leader of the opposition and serves as the chief of the Zoram People's Movement.
