The series is a realistic take on the romantic relationship between Dev and Sonakshi. The show mainly revolves around their love story and its impact upon the unique, close bond between Dev and his mother, while exploring other family relationships.[3]

In January 2017, a seven-year leap was introduced.[4] Dev was shown to have transformed into a self-loving and carefree man, while Sonakshi had become a mature businesswoman and a single mother.[5]

The show originally ended in 24 August 2017. But on 31 August 2017, the channel announced that because of viewer demand the show would air extra episodes of Dev and Sonakshi's bonding with their newborn in mid-September 2017.[6]

Plot

Season 1

Set in Delhi, it traces the love between Devrath "Dev" Dixit and Sonakshi "Sona" Bose.

Dev is the eldest son of widowed Ishwari Dixit, and has three younger sisters. His mother worked as a housekeeper before Dev established his own business and their lifestyle changed. They now live with Ishwari and her brother's family, consisting of her brother, his wily wife, and their spoilt son, Vicky. Dev grows up as a devoted and grateful son to Ishwari, who also attaches herself obsessively to Dev.

Due to Ishwari's health, Dev appoints a young nutritionist, Sonakshi. She does not hit it off with Dev initially, but grows into the family, winning over Ishwari, her brother, her daughter, and eventually Dev. Sona was not sure whether she had feelings for Dev or not. But in the mean time she faces an accident. Seeing his care and concern for her,she falls in love with him.

Meanwhile, Dev also begins to consider Sona as his best friend. But at the same time, being impressed, Mr. Hadish Gujral, a well-known businessman, fixes Dev's alliance with his daughter, Natasha, which he reluctantly accepts. Sona is left heartbroken. But the day before his engagement, he realises his love for Sona, and breaks the alliance. On that night, he goes in front of his childhood house with Sona, and proposes to her.

The couple announces their love for each other, and that is when Ishwari's insecurities begin. She accepts Sona as her daughter-in-law, but becomes depressed and consumes sleeping pills. Learning about Ishwari's reluctance for this alliance, Dev breaks up with Sona. Sona is left heartbroken and decides to marry Dr. Ritwick Sen.

On her engagement day, Dev consumes too much alcohol and faints, creating a scene. Seeing Sona's concern for him, Ritwik calls off the engagement and steps back to reunite them. Knowing that Dev has broken up with Sona for her, Ishwari decides to fix his marriage with Sona. At first, Sona and her family are reluctant, but later, they agree.

Belonging to two different cultures, Sona, a Bengali, and Dev, a Marathi, get married in a nice Bengali ceremony, which draws criticism from their Marathi relatives. Ishwari too, begins to create trouble for Sona around the house, including her actions, her decisions, and tries to twist everything to provoke Dev against Sona. This plays too well for Vicky who plans to get a hold of Dev's business. He creates a misunderstanding between the Dixits and the Boses by setting Sona's brother's business to fail after Dev invests in him. This widens a rift between the couple, and a pregnant Sona leaves for Calcutta with her family.

Seven years later, Sona returns to the city for a press ceremony, where she encounters Dev, a heartless vagabond who lives through his nephew, Vicky's son. He protects him and considers him as his only friend.

Gradually, Dev decides to remarry out of spite, and both Sona and Ishwari realise the love between Dev and Sona. Dev reunites with his daughter, Suhana, or Soha, and Sona announces she is pregnant again. She gives birth to a baby boy, Shubh.

Season 2

The second season starts with Sona and Dev being unable to juggle work and family. Ishwari keeps requesting Sona to leave her job, but she is unable to do so. Seeing Sona drenched in work, Dev decides to be an at-home parent. The show ends on a happy note with their sweet family, alongwith Shubh's calling 'maa' for the first time.

After successful completion of one year of the TV series, Yash Patnaik, Chairman and Managing Director of Beyond Dreams Entertainment known for showcasing "simple yet strong story telling" shows stated that he is happy as viewers quickly accepted the "experiment with conviction". He praised the lead actors and went on to say "Shaheer and Erica have excelled as Dev and Sonakshi. As actors both have grown tremendously with this show. Their understanding of character or premise has been outstanding. That's why their chemistry is looking like magic." He further said that the positive way of showing the "simplicity clubbed with beauty" along with a slight gambling with characters, plots and story telling paid off in the end. Thanking Sony TV's management for giving the show one-year extension, he said the credit goes to his wife, Mamta Yash A Patnaik, Producer, Chief Creative Director of Entertainment and co-founder of Beyond Dreams Entertainment for being the actual person behind the show's success.[9]
