Sudhan Raha of CPI(M) defeated Aburabbani Ahmed (Badshah) of Trinamool Congress in 2001,[8] Subhash Das of Congress in 1996,[7] Aftabul Alam of Congress in 1991,[6] and Kallol Basu of Congress in 1987.[5] Parimal Mitra of CPI(M) defeated Deba Prasad Roy of Congress in 1982[4] and Abdul Hasnat Mohammed Abu Saleque of Congress in 1977.[3][10] The constituency was not there prior to that.
