Kothandaramar temple, Vaduvur

Kothandaramar Temple is a Hindu temple located in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, India, dedicated to Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu.[1]

Location

It is located in the village of Vaduvur in Thanjavur-Mannargudi road. This temple is also known as Dakshina Ayodhya.[1]

Presiding deity

The presiding deity of this temple is known as Kothandaramar.[1] He is found with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman.[2]

Other shrines

In the prakara, shrines of Hayagrivar, Visvasenar, Andal and Alvars are found in this temple.[1] In the front mandapa, Gopalan is found in a separate shrine with Rukmani and Satyabama. Before the presiding deity was kept in the sanctum sanctorum, he was found there. Sarayu theertha is found outside the temple. The vimana of this temple is known as Pushpaka vimana.[2]

Religious significance

This temple is one of the Pancharama Kshetrams and considered the foremost among the five temples. Pancha means five and Kshetrams refers to holy places. All the five temples are situated in Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu.[1]

Festivals

Rama Navami, Garuda Seva and car festival are celebrated in a grand manner.[2]
