It is located in the Southern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 4,793 (31 January 2019)[2] and covers an area of 711.76 square kilometres (274.81 sq mi) of which 136.3 km2 (52.6 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 8.33 inhabitants per square kilometre (21.6/sq mi).
Neighbouring municipalities are Juva, Leppävirta, Pieksämäki, Rantasalmi and Varkaus.
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Varkaus Airport is located in Joroinen.
Joroinen has the biggest disc golf course in Finland with 36 holes.[6][7]
Joroinen is often called Paris of the Savonia because in the 1700s the people of the manor spoke mainly French.[8]
