Biography

Manz was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended St. Martha School in Morton Grove.[1] Graduating from Quigley Preparatory North in 1963, he then earned a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Niles College in 1967 and a Master's in Divinity from the University of St. Mary of the Lake in 1971.[1]

Manz was ordained to the priesthood by the Cardinal Archbishop of Chicago, John Cardinal Cody, on May 12, 1971.[2] He then served as associate pastor at Providence of God Church until 1978, and at St. Roman Church from 1978 to 1983.[1] He was pastor of St. Agnes of Bohemia Church from 1983 to 1996, during which time he also served as dean of Chicago's Lower West Side (1987-1996).[1]

Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago

On January 23, 1996, Manz was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago and as the Titular Bishop of Mulia by Pope John Paul II.[2] He received his episcopal consecration on the following March 5 from Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, with Bishops Wilton Gregory and Plácido Rodriguez, C.M.F., serving as co-consecrators.[2] As an auxiliary bishop, Manz also served as Episcopal Vicar for Vicariate III until August 2011, when he transferred to Vicariate IV.[1]

Within the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, he is a chairman of the Subcommittee on Pastoral Care of Migrants, Refugees and Travelers; and a member of the Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church and Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America.

gollark: Apparently whoever wrote the specifications for what people learn in "computer science" thought it was important that people know about this, and for consistency or something they designed their own assembly language (which does not actually run on anything).
