Track listing
The band reported in July 2006 that the fifteen tracks have been recorded for the album. Some of these tracks have already been featured on the Play a Part EP meaning thirteen tracks may have still made the album. However, on 14 March 2007, the full track listing and artwork was confirmed.
- "Get Out, Give In"
- "Crazy"
- "Gotta Get Home"
- "The Spaces Between"
- "In The Night"
- "Play a Part"
- "Shooting Star"
- "You Were There"
- "Only Wanna Love Ya"
- "Deadman"
- "Blackbird"
- "Times Like These"
- "Are You Awake?"
The album will soon be re-released as a digital only deluxe edition featuring "Missing" - a cover of an Everything but the Girl song recorded for the Dew Process compilation No Man's Woman, along with a number of songs taken from their set as recorded by Triple J's Live at the Wireless from 2007's Splendour in the Grass.
Though "Get Out, Give In" and "The Spaces Between" both featured on the Lovers le Strange EP, the versions of the songs are different on the album.
Artwork
The cover artwork for the album was designed and made by Jonathan Zowada who also did the artwork for the Play a Part EP. It shows a red flag blowing against the blue sky, however if you look at the picture another way, the red flag looks like a face from its side.
Guest musicians
- Tim Rogers - bass on all tracks except "Are You Awake?", and incongruously cowrote "Are You Awake?". Tim Rogers was formerly the bassist for Expatriate, however left for a solo career under the name Jack Ladder to avoid confusion with the You Am I singer.
- Mark Monahan - played guitars on "Deadman", co-wrote "Deadman"
- Greg Kurstin - cowrote "In The Night", performed synth on "In The Night"
- Dave Molland - cowrote "Gotta Get Home" and played bass on "Are You Awake?". Dave Molland is now the band's permanent bass player.
Recording
The majority of the album was recorded in Los Angeles with John Goodmanson, but recorded "Are You Awake?" at Ginsberg Studios with multi-instrumentalist band member Damien Press.
Singles
All featured on the In The Midst Of This DJ sampler.
- "The Spaces Between"
- "Play a Part"
- "Crazy"
- "Only Wanna Love Ya"
- "Gotta Get Home"
"Play a Part" and "Only Wanna Love Ya" both featured on the double A-side Ep Play a Part EP. "Crazy" was a radio only single to promote the album in Australia, whilst "The Spaces Between" was the first US radio single, as well as the 4th Australian single.
