Huo Che

In Chinese, huo che corresponds to 火车 or 火 車, huŏ chē in Pinyin, literally a fire car or fire cart, designating most usually a train. It can also correspond to a Chinese multiple rocket launcher developed for firing multiple fire arrows.

History

The name huŏ chē or fire car dates from the steam locomotive era when locomotives relied on burning wood or coal as fuel for the steam engines. As multiple rocket launchers, Huo Ches were used in the Ming dynasty in the Jingnan War and were carried on the ships of Zheng He during his voyages to India and Africa. Huo Ches were primarily used in a defensive manner for close-range infantry support.
