Hizen-Ryūō Station

Hizen-Ryūō Station (肥前竜王駅, Hizenryuuou-eki) is a railway station in Shiroishi, Kishima District, Saga Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by JR Kyushu and is on the Nagasaki Main Line.[1][2]

Lines

The station is served by the Nagasaki Main Line and is located 49.4 km from the starting point of the line at Tosu.[3]

Station layout

The station consists of two side platforms serving two tracks. A siding branches off track 1. The station building, a simple concrete structure, is unstaffed and serves only as a waiting room. Access to the opposite side platform is by means of a footbridge.[3][2]

History

Japanese Government Railways (JGR) built the station in the 1930s during the development of an alternative route for the Nagasaki Main Line along the coast of the Ariake Sea. In the first phase of construction, the track was extended south from Hizen-Yamaguchi with Hizen-Ryūō opening on 9 March 1930 as the southern terminus. It became a through station on 30 November 1930 when the track was extended to Hizen-Hama. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR), the successor of JGR, on 1 April 1987, control of the station passed to JR Kyushu.[4][5]

Passenger statistics

In fiscal 2016, the daily average number of passengers using the station (boarding passengers only) was above 100 and below 323. The station did not rank among the top 300 busiest stations of JR Kyushu.[6]
