History

The medieval Dolm Church served the parish of Hitra for nearly 800 years before it burned down in 1920. At that time, it was decided that the new church to replace it would be built in the village of Melandsjøen to make it more accessible to the people since it was going to be the main church for the parish. The old Dolm Church was located on the island of Dolmøya and Melandsjøen was on the island of Hitra where the majority of the people lived.[1]

The square-shaped Hitra Church was built in a cruciform church style in 1927 under the direction of architect Claus Hjelte (1884-1969). It was inaugurated on 15 December 1927. [2] The church was constructed of local stone, with a clock tower topped by a copper dome crowned with a cross. The church seats about 400 people. [3][4]

gollark: The emergency shutdown thing was added after an issue when I retasked all PotatOS machines to spam a rednet chat server and couldn't stop them.
gollark: The SPUDNET interface is highly concurrent™ so you could just send a shutdown command while it is doing other things and it'd work.
gollark: It just doesn't have a dedicated emergency shutdown thing now, since the interface for remote debugging got actual parallelism ages back.
gollark: It isn't.
gollark: There were issues a while back, so it got an emergency shutdown system.
