Background and composition

One of their socially conscious singles (about world peace), the song was composed by Ernie Isley, who wrote most of the lyrics, together with Marvin Isley and Chris Jasper, with additional lyrics and musical arrangements added by the three original members O'Kelly, Rudolph and Ronald. As on many Isley Brothers records, Ronald sang lead on the song while his older brothers O'Kelly and Rudolph usually backed him up.

Chart performance

The song became a top ten R&B hit, peaking at #9, and peaking at #63 on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] It was a bigger pop hit in the UK, reaching #10 on the UK Singles Chart.[2]

Cover versions

The Christians released a hit cover of the song that reached #8 in the UK.[3] British/American supergroup The Power Station recorded a cover of it for their 1985 album and was rumored to have been a potential 4th single.

Vanessa Williams covered the song on her 2005 album "Everlasting Love."

Personnel

gollark: Correction, only 72.
gollark: Normally people make that complaint about my server, which "makes no sense" and "has 86 channels aaaa" and "is useless what is it even for", but this one has a clearly defined purpose.
gollark: Place value notation is cool and good™.
gollark: What else are you going to use, Roman numerals?
gollark: Probably the blast with microwaves approach unless you can wirelessly hijack them too.
