History

In 2007, the sixteen participating nations are divided in the first stage in four groups of four teams each. The nations play against each other once within their respective groups, and the two best placed teams of each group qualify to the second stage, which is the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals winners qualify to the semifinals. The semifinal winners play the final, while the losers play the third-place playoff.[1]

Five teams took part in the 2018 tournament between 30 January and 4 February 2018.[2]

gollark: I'd hope shadowy conspiracies would be better.
gollark: They're just evil government #124901724, governments do not appear to be very good at long term planning in general.
gollark: At least if there was some evil conspiracy running everything they might have a *strategy* and *long-term planning*.
gollark: (inb4 "but [POLITICAL SYSTEM I DISLIKE] is totally designed as the perfect evil-optimization engine")
gollark: I would mostly only feel that way about, I don't know, a political system literally designed to maximize pain/evil or something, which is very unlikely to actually arise naturally, spread, and take over the world.
