Gonzalez is a census-designated place (CDP) in Escambia County, Florida. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 13,273. Gonzalez is a suburban community located north of Pensacola, and south of Cantonment. Tate High School, the largest public school in Escambia County, is located in Gonzalez.

Geography

Gonzalez is located at 30°34′28″N 87°17′24″W (30.574386, -87.290031).[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.3 square miles (39.7 km2), of which 15.1 square miles (39.1 km2) is land and 0.19 square miles (0.5 km2), or 1.37%, is water.[4]

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 11,365 people, 4,086 households, and 3,309 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 743.4 people per square mile (287.0/km2). There were 4,260 housing units at an average density of 278.7/sq mi (107.6/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 88.02% White, 7.65% African American, 0.80% Native American, 1.49% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.41% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.67% of the population.

There were 4,086 households, out of which 40.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% were non-families. 15.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 28.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $50,134, and the median income for a family was $55,643. Males had a median income of $38,819 versus $26,018 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,268. About 7.5% of families and 8.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.4% of those under age 18 and 3.8% of those age 65 or over.
