Giedrius Gustas

Giedrius Gustas (born 4 March 1980) is a Lithuanian basketball player—a champion of Europe, a champion of Euroleague, a member of Lithuania men's national basketball team, and a former player of Žalgiris Kaunas. He mainly played at the point guard position. He is 1.90 m (6 ft 2 ¾ in) tall and he weighs 86 kg (190 pounds).

Biography

He was graduated from A. Sabonis basketball school. The first basketball practices he started to attend when he was eight—first coach - Ramūnas Šalūga. The boys' generation of the 1980 age was the first generation who graduated from A. Sabonis basketball school.

In 1996 he played in the U16 Lithuanian national basketball team.

In 1998 he played in the U18 Lithuanian national basketball team with R. Javtokas, A. Macijauskas, D. Zavackas, G. Kadžiulis, T. Nagys.

In 1998 was graduated at Kaunas V. Kupreviciaus (former Kaunas 32 primary school) primary school.

In 1998 after the call of J. Kazlauskas, he joyned the team Žalgiris Kaunas.

In 2017 was graduated at Vytautas Magnus University, Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management.

In 2019 was graduated at Vytautas Magnus University, Master's degree in Marketing and Sales.

Professional career

In 1999 with team Žalgiris Kaunas he became a champion of Euroleague, NEBL, and Lithuanian Basketball League.

In 2008, while playing with the Latvian Basketball League club Barons LMT, he won the FIBA EuroCup championship, and he was named the league's Final Four MVP.[1] In 2009, he joined the Greek Basket League club EKK Kavala.[2]

Lithuanian national team

He has been a member of the Lithuania men's national basketball team. He has played at the 2006 FIBA World Championship. He has also played at the 2003 European Championship, where he won a gold medal, the 2005 European Championship, and at the 2007 European Championship, where he won a bronze medal.

2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, a member of Lithuania men's national basketball team: appearances in 66 games, scored 287 points.

Career

On 31 August 2016, Gustas announced his retirement as player and became the assistant coach of Dzūkija Alytus.[3]

2016 - 2017, he was appointed as a Sports Director and the Head of the team Dzūkija Alytus.[4]

Since 2018 he is a member of the Lithuania Basketball Federation and the Director of Lithuanian women's basketball league.[5]
