George Halliburton

George Halliburton (c.1750-1826) was an officer of the Argentine navy of Scottish origin, who participated in the Argentine naval battles, which took place during the War of Independence.[1]

Biography

Halliburton was born in Dundee, Scotland, son of John Halliburton and Mary Guile. He was married to María Martina Wright, born in Buenos Aires, daughter of Juan Carlos Wright and María Magdalena Recalde, belonging to an Anglo-Creole family.[2]

Jorge Halliburton took part in the defense of the city against the Royalist naval blockade of the port of Buenos Aires of 1810 and 1811, serving also as a Frigate Commander during the Combate naval del Buceo.[3] In 1812, he obtained Argentine citizenship granted by the First Triumvirate.[4]
