Fork Lagoons is bounded to the north and east by Theresa Creek and Retreat Creek to the south.[4]

The locality was officially named and bounded on 16 June 2000.[2]

The nearest primary schools are Anakie State School in neighbouring Anakie Siding to the south-west, Capella State School in Capella to the north, and Denison State School and Emerald North State School, both in neighbouring Emerald to the south-west.
