Florida West International Airways

Florida West International Airways, a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, was a cargo airline based at Miami International Airport.[1] It operated scheduled and charter services worldwide, with its main markets in Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States.

History

The airline was established in 1981 and was originally known as Florida West Airlines. Following entry into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 1994, its assets and subsidiaries, were sold to Florida West International Airways in August 1995. Operations restarted on 12 March 1996. In December 2000, LAN Airlines acquired a 25% stake in the airline, which has 66 employees. (as of July 2014).[2]

On April 7, 2016, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings acquired Florida West International Airways.[3]

Closure

In March 2017 Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (AAWH) shut down Florida West International Airways and cancelled the cargo carrier's certificates of authority.[4]
