The song is about the fact that he saw his ex girlfriend having an affair with the narrator's best friend. he asks her why she left him, in which she explains to him, in a spoken voice, that she left him, because he had not expressed his love for her, for a period of 4 years, and that hurt her feelings very much, and she suggested to him, to find someone new to take her place.

The song was produced by Michaels.[3]

The single ranked #19 on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1971.[4]
