Background and singles

On 29 October 2018, during Collier's live stream that announced the Djesse series, Collier said the third volume "is when things get very real indeed" and described the album as a "kind of crazy electronics thing".[2]

The first single, "Time Alone with You" which features Daniel Caesar, was released 29 November 2019.[5][6][7]

Five "beatsketches" were posted by Collier between 4 and 16 March 2020. Collier described them on his website as such: "They are all about a minute long, taken from the edges of the album-making process – a collection of crazy sounds, little canvases, windows into universes I have visited over the course of my Vol. 3 creating time."[8] The five "beatsketches" are titled Bird Scuff,[9] What's Impossible,[10] Dreamer,[11] Train to Saskatoon,[12] and Believe in Love.[13]

On 17 March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Collier postponed the 2020 leg of his Djesse World Tour. In the same statement he said that he was finishing off Djesse Vol. 3.[14]

The second single, "In My Bones", featuring Kimbra and Tarriona "Tank" Ball, was released 25 March 2020.[15] On 14 May, Collier released the third single, "All I Need", which features Ty Dolla Sign and Mahalia.[16][17] The music video for "All I Need" was premiered on YouTube on 17 June 2020.[18]

On 10 July, Collier released fourth single, "He Won't Hold You", featuring Rapsody.[19][20] The fifth and final single, "Running Outta Love", featuring Tori Kelly, was released on 31 July.[21][22]
