History

The Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen in Kairo was founded in 1904, after the success of its sister school in Alexandria, which was founded in 1884 to educate Germans and Austrians, whose parents were working in Alexandria at the time. The school is led by the Kongregation der Barmherzigen Schwestern vom heiligen Karl Borromäus (Congregation of the Nuns of Saint Karl Borromäus). The newly founded school acquired a building in Bab El-Louk as well as property in Maadi, where its preschool is now located.

In 1915 during World War I, the school was forced to close with 300 students. After 8 years the school reopened with only 60 students. After the school reopened, the number of Egyptian students started to rise. By 1946 the school only accepted female students. The school became an all girls school to this day.

DSB Kairo is a member of the Deutsche Ausslandsschulen International. It consists of Kindergarten, Vorschule, Grundschule and Gymnasium. Most of its teachers are either German or Egyptian.

gollark: I don't agree. "People" in aggregate can, but you aren't that.
gollark: This is the "missing the point" bit and it is inevitable until I finish scrolling down.
gollark: It's silly to blame people for "not doing anything" to attempt to change things when they cannot, in fact, actually do much, and you're missing the point linking lists of revolutions and such (besides, how many actually went *well*?).
gollark: Of course!
gollark: This is inaccurate. "You" as an individual cannot do anything but have to coordinate, and this is aææðæßðæßðæðæðæß hard.
