Crimea in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest

The participation of Crimea in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest was originally planned to begin in Istanbul, Turkey, at the inaugural Bala Turkvision Song Contest in 2015. TRK Millet (TRKM) was responsible for the selection process of their participant, for their debut in 2015. Aliye Bekirova was selected as Crimea's first representative for the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2015, with the song "Amanım yarım". However, they were forced to withdraw from the contest on 30 November 2015, due to the Russia–Turkey relations in the aftermath of the 2015 Russian Sukhoi Su-24 shootdown near the Syria–Turkey border on 24 November 2015. Crimea confirmed their participation for the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2016, and had selected Regina Vosika as their representative. However, this was subsequently cancelled alongside the Turkvision Song Contest 2016 due to the December 2016 Istanbul bombings.

Bala Turkvision is an annual song contest. Based on the similar format of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Bala Turkvision focuses primarily on participating Turkic countries and regions. A juror from each nation awards between 1 and 10 points for every entry, except their own. In the Grand Final the jury determines the winner. Unlike the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in which the winning country proceeds to host the following year's event, hosting of the Bala Turkvision Song Contest takes place in the country or region that is also hosting the Turkish Capital of Culture.[1]

The Crimean broadcaster, TRK Millet (TRKM), announced on 11 September 2015 that they would be making their Bala Turkvision debut at the 2015 contest in Istanbul, Turkey on 15 December 2015.[2] TRKM opted for a national selection mechanism in order to select their representative at the inaugural contest.[3] The national final took place at the Crimean Tatar Theatre in Sevastopol, on 25 October 2015.[4] Aliye Bekirova was selected as the Crimean representative with the song "Amanım yarım".[5] However, they were forced to withdraw from the contest on 30 November 2015,[6] due to the Russia–Turkey relations in the aftermath of the 2015 Russian Sukhoi Su-24 shootdown near the Syria–Turkey border on 24 November 2015.[7][8]

On 29 October 2016, Crimea confirmed their participation at the Bala Turkvision Song Contest.[9] On 4 November 2016, Regina Vosika, was announced as the second artist to represent Crimea at the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2016.[10] On 8 December 2016, it was announced that both the Turkvision Song Contest 2016 and Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2016 had been delayed until March 2017, marking the first time since either of the inaugural contests, that a postponement had occurred.[11] However, it was later confirmed that both of the 2016 contests had been cancelled due to the December 2016 Istanbul bombings.[12] The contest was rescheduled to take place at the Saryarka Velodrome, in Astana, Kazakhstan.[13]

gollark: Neat.
gollark: I technically operate a """pubnix""" in the form of the HNode™/random raspberry pi at home which various people have accounts on.
gollark: I'm not sure if there actually is anything which you could do when logged in which you couldn't also make a possibly-nicer-to-use remote interface for, but who knows.
gollark: Oh, that's it, yes.
gollark: I think one of these things had a semicollaborative virtual plant game of some kind.
