Background and release

After the release of her second studio album, Future Nostalgia, Lipa confirmed that the album would receive a deluxe edition re-issue, stating "I have a couple of songs that I've worked on, and that I kind of put aside for a second wind, so that's all to be discussed."[1][2] Being unable to tour for the album due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lipa saw her fans listening to the songs from the album feeling much joy. Intending to "take the party up a notch," Lipa enlisted the help of The Blessed Madonna to craft a mixtape that would later become Club Future Nostalgia: The Remix Album, working on it secretly in quarantine.[3] After the announcement of the "Levitating" remix, Lipa announced on 4 August 2020 that the remix along with a remix of "Physical" by Mark Ronson featuring Gwen Stefani, would be featured on a remix album of Future Nostalgia, titled Club Future Nostalgia.[4][5] The album was scheduled to be released through Warner Records on 21 August 2020, however on 10 August 2020, Lipa revealed while hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the album was being delayed a week in order to create an animation of every track on the record.[6][7] In a Warner Records press release, the album was described as a blend of 1990s house and 2020 pop, with splashes of 1980s soul.[3]

The Blessed Madonna's remix of "Levitating" featuring Madonna and Missy Elliott was released as the album's lead single on 13 August 2020.[8][9][10]
