The station was once the junction for the Timboon line, which branched off at the western end of the station.[2] All signalling and safeworking equipment at the junction were abolished by September 1987.[3]

The refreshment rooms at Camperdown closed in March 1976.[4] The passenger facilities were refurbished in late 1984 and early 1985.[5] It was also in 1985 that the former freight centre closed, with the freight office demolished by August of the same year.[6]

In September 1988, the former No. 2 and No. 4 roads, and the sidings provided for Shell and Mobil, as well as the locomotive and works sidings, were closed.[7] A number of signal posts were also removed, along with a ground lever frame.[7]

The Warrnambool freight train crosses the weekday morning "up" train to Southern Cross at Melbourne in the remaining crossing loop. The station building comprises a waiting room, a ticket and customer service desk, and toilets.
