History

Following the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision began attempts to sell a Call of Duty game in the Chinese market but struggled due to cost and distribution laws in China. In 2011 however, Activision partnered with Tencent to create an exclusive Chinese title for the franchise. During early development and initial beta testing, the game was developed by Activision's Shanghai studio, but development switched over to Raven Software after the game officially launched in 2015.[1]

Overview

The game is free-to-play, and features some of the same multiplayer modes as previous games in the series, though some notable changes exist. The game offers "Hero Ops" single-player missions, a cooperative Survival mode, and a special mode called "Cyborgs", rather than the franchise's popular zombie-survival mode, a change brought on by Chinese censorship laws.[2] The game also allows players to purchase cosmetics for their in-game avatars and to rent in-game items.[3] Since its launch, the game has revived updates that include weapons and features from recent installments in the wider franchise.
