Walker was born in Billingham, County Durham.[1] He began his career with Hartlepool United and signed a professional contract with the club in July 2013.[3][4] He made his Football League debut on 3 August 2013 in a 3–0 defeat away at Rochdale.[5]

Walker scored his first career goal in a 1–1 draw against Burton Albion in December 2013.[6]

His form saw him nominated for the League Two Apprentice of the Year Award at the 2014 Football League Awards with Jack Whatmough and Ben Purrington. Walker won the award one day after scoring in a 4–0 win for Hartlepool against Bristol Rovers.[7]

In January 2016, Walker played as a triallist in a Wolverhampton Wanderers U-21's match against Aston Villa.[8]

On 4 July 2017, Walker signed a two-year deal to join Crewe Alexandra. He scored his first Crewe goal, against Rotherham United in an FA Cup first round tie at Gresty Road, on 4 November 2017,[9] and his first league goal for Crewe, against Grimsby Town, at Gresty Road on 1 January 2018.[10]

On 30 August 2018, Walker joined Wrexham on a six-month loan.[11] He scored his first goal for Wrexham, a penalty, in a 1–1 draw at Chesterfield on 27 October 2018.[12]

Shrewsbury Town

On 9 January 2019, Walker signed for Shrewsbury Town, however was loaned back to Wrexham for the remainder of the 2018–19 season.[13] He didn't make his debut for "The Shrews" until 10 August, coming on as a 79th minute-substitute during a 1–0 defeat at Milton Keynes Dons.[14] He scored his first goal for Shrewsbury when he scored in an EFL Trophy tie against Macclesfield Town on 13 November 2019.[15]
