Bishandot

Bishandot is a village in Kallar Syedan Tehsil, Rawalpindi District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is 5 km southeast of the town of Rawat and 20 km southeast of the city of Rawalpindi. Over Link Road it is 5 km to Grand Trunk Road. Nearby towns are Sagri, Shahbagh and Chowk Pindori. Gujar Khan is 25 km away.

Bishandote Union Council includes many smaller villages. The village of Bishandot has a population of about 1,000 vs 30,000 in the union council.

Etymology

Bishandot is named after a Hindu ruler, Bishan, who lived there. The dot element means village.

Economy

Many people in Bishandot work for the Pakistani Army. The soil of Bishandot is very fertile. Crops grown are wheat and maize.

The Bishandot post office is a branch of the Sagri Post Office. GPS Bishandot is the local Government Primary School for girls in Bishandot.[1]

Demography

Residents who belong to the Gakhar tribe use Raja or Kiyani in their names.[2] Kayanis claim origin from Kian in Iran.

Religion

Before Pakistan's Independence, inhabitants of Bishandot adhered to Islam, Sikhism or Hinduism. After gaining independence, the Hindu and Sikh left Bishandot and migrated to India. All remaining residents of Bishandot are Muslims and belong to "Barelvi" section of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat.
