Written by Shinsadong Tiger and Beom x Nang, "Bboom Bboom" was a sleeper hit that peaked at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart the week of February 25, nearly two months after release.[3] The song was nominated for first place on the music show Inkigayo for 12 weeks straight.[4] As of January 2020, the music video has gained over 400 million views on YouTube. With over 100 million streams, it was the first girl group song to earn a Platinum certification from Gaon Music Chart. Momoland was also awarded Best Dance Performance for the song at the 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards.
Background History
The demo track was presented by Shinsadong Tiger to Lee Hyung-Jin a representative and Chief Executive Officer of Duble Kick Company (now renamed as MLD Entertainment). He tried to refine the song, however it ended up being rejected by the Momoland members who refused to perform it. As a result, the song went through several revisions before it was released.[5][6]
Japanese version
Momoland signed with King Records to release their debut in Japan on June 13, 2018, as well as a Japanese version of their single "Bboom Bboom".[8]
"Bboom Bboom" debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Oricon Singles Chart in its first week.[9] In its second week, the single fell to No. 20.[10] It placed at No. 17 for the month of June 2018 with 22,178 physical copies sold.[11]
The song placed at number 62 at Billboard Japan Hot 100 Year End chart, placing at number 76 in Top Streaming Songs.[12][13]

Controversy
The same month the song was released, Serebro accused Momoland of plagiarizing their song "Mi Mi Mi" with "Bboom Bboom". Shinsadong Tiger denied the allegations by pointing out that "the bass line [is] commonly heard in retro house or electro swing genres, as well as the 4-stanza chord."[15]
Also due its sudden rise on the music chart, it was easily caught under suspicion of chart manipulation. But according to investigations performed by Hanteo Chart and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea, these allegations turned out to be false.[16]
