As of the 2001 Census of India,[2] Banat had a population of 19,080. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Banat has an average literacy rate of 51%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 62% of the males and 38% of females literate. 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.
