History and design

The station was opened on 1 August 1851[2] by the Midland Great Western Railway. It is designed by George Wilkinson, and has been well-maintained since it was opened. The building is dressed with many gables that serve to articulate the roofline. The railway station is of considerable social and historical significance, having been built as part of the Great Midland and Western Railway network development in Ireland that improved the efficiency of public transport and linked remote areas of the country with larger urban settlements and ports.[3][4]

gollark: I can send you the PDFs, but bottom line it will be very annoying. They should really let us work remotely two days a week or something.
gollark: Also, Wikipedia without images and stuff is only 15GB, so you could save that.
gollark: Oh, did the school bother to send you the COVID-19 policy docs for next term?
gollark: Although my movies/TV/random YouTube are stored on my server at home, which made them not too helpful.
gollark: Fortunately I have several gigabytes of offline books and maps and stuff.
