Băneasa Shopping City is a shopping center in the north of Bucharest, Romania, opened on 18 April 2008. It is part of the Băneasa Developments owned by businessmen Gabriel Popoviciu and Radu Timofte.[2]

Besides the Băneasa Commercial Platform, Băneasa Developments orchestrates a unique mix of real estate developments, shopping center management and an extensive entertainment unit. Băneasa Shopping City is an extensive commercial and real estate area located in the northern area of Bucharest, the city's richest and most developed area, right next to the country's most circulated road and on the way to Otopeni International Airport.[3]

History

The mall was constructed by French firm Bouygues in 2008. Investment in the mall development was 150 million euros. Băneasa Shopping City is the fifth mall opened in Bucharest, after Bucharest Mall, Plaza Romania, City Mall and Unirea Shopping Center. In total, it includes 280 stores. The shopping center attracted more than 750,000 visitors in the first month.[4]

The mall has 55,000 square meters of retail space and also includes Grand Cinema&More, inaugurated in 2011, with the revolutionary Dolby Atmos technology. It also has a quarterly fashion and lifestyle magazine (Styler) and has developed one of the most efficient intelligent building management systems in Romania.[5]

Many apparel brands first came to Romania through Băneasa Shopping City, among them Park Bravo, Piazza Italia, Max Mara Weekend, Gaudi, Next and Massimo Dutti. Accessories brands not widely known in Romania made their debut in this shopping mall.

Attractions

The mall also has Grand Cinema&More, with revolutionary Dolby Atmos technology inaugurated in 2011; the area of entertainment, MaxFun; an area devoted to games MaxBet; and a quarterly fashion and lifestyle magazine Styler. It has developed one of the most efficient intelligent building management systems.

Grand Cinema&More, operated under the Grand Entertainment brand, is equipped with the latest digital projection technology, including the Grand Ultra auditorium, a black box concept featuring the widest flat screen in Romania and the Dolby Atmos audio system for a unique cinematographic experience. Besides being able to watch the latest movies in a premium format, Băneasa Shopping City also offers moviegoers and art lovers a series of special cultural events: in-house theatre productions and live broadcasts of major concerts of the world.

Transport connections

Băneasa Shopping City is accessible by car and public transport. It is a 15-minute drive from downtown, specifically in northern Bucharest, on a road adjacent to the national road DN1 near Băneasa International Airport, and is only minutes from Henri Coandă International Airport.

Public busses travel from Romană Square (number 131 – end of line at Complex Comercial Băneasa), from Piața Presei Libere (lines 148, 476, 448 si 449 – Băneasa station) or from Barajul Dunării (number 335 - end of line at Complex Comercial Băneasa).

Awards

Băneasa Shopping City was honored at the Gala Awards for Industry Real Estate in South East Europe (Southeastern European Real Estate Awards) with the most important awards for local industry and Europe: in "Best Project of the Year in Europe South East" category (Project of the Year), Baneasa Shopping City won the top prize.

The CITY ILOVE app by Baneasa Shopping City is Silver Winner to International Council of Shopping Centers, in 2016 - Emerging Technology category.
