Ashiq Ilahi Bulandshahri

Muḥammad ‘Āshiq Ilāhī Bulandshahrī Muhājir Madanī (Muḥammad ‘Āshiq Ilāhī al-Baranī al-Madanī) was a prominent Indian Islamic scholar. He was a disciple of Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi.

Birth

Ashiq Ilahi was born in Bulandshahr, United Provinces of British India in 1924 or 1925 (1343 AH).

Education

Ashiq Ilahi was schooled at Madrasah Imdadiyyah Muradabad and Jami' Masjid Aligarh. He graduated from Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur.

Career

After completing his studies, he taught in the town of Ferozepur Jhirka, the madrasah Hayatul Ulum in Moradabad, and different madrasahs in Calcutta. Later, at the request of Mufti Muhammad Shafi, he went to Darul Uloom Karachi, where he taught hadith and tafsir for several years.[1] He also assumed responsibility of the school's fatwa department (Darul Ifta), where he worked as a Mufti from 1384 AH (1964/1965) to 1397 AH (1976/1977).[1][2]

  • Tohfa-e-Khawateen.
  • Marne Ke Baad Kya Hōga?
  • Islami Adab.
  • Huququl Walidayn.
  • Anwar Ul Bayan (5 volume Urdu commentary of the Qur'an translated to English by Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias).[3]
  • Zadut Talibin (Translated to English by Mufti ARM, he also wrote its commentary).[4]
  • Al Fawa’idul Saniyya fi Sharhul Arba'een un Nawawiyya.
  • At Tashil ud Daruri fi Masa’ilul Quduri.

Death

Maulana Ashiq Ilahi later moved to Medina, where he passed the final twenty-five years of his life. He died in 2001 and was buried in al-Baqi'.
