Club career

Mendez made his professional debut for USL Championship club LA Galaxy II in a 1–0 win against Orange County SC on August 3, 2017 coming on as a 34th-minute substitute for Andre Ulrich Zanga.[1]

On October 23, 2018, Mendez announced that he had signed a professional contract for the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg in Germany.[2]

On July 30, 2019, Mendez was signed by Ajax on a three-year deal.[3]

International career

Mendez has been capped by the United States at the U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels. Before being cap-tied by to the United States, he was also eligible to represent Mexico.

On November 21, 2018, Mendez scored both goals as the United States defeated Mexico 2–0 in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. He then participated heavily in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Later in 2019, he was called up to a United States U23 camp in preparation for Olympic qualifying.[4]
