Alan Dupont AO has worked on Australian defence and Asian security issues for more than thirty years as a strategist, diplomat, policy analyst, and scholar.[1] He is Michael Hintze Chair of International Security and the Director of the Centre for International Security Studies at the University of Sydney, Australia.[1] Dupont received his PhD in International Relations from the Australian National University in Canberra, and is a graduate of both the Royal Military College, Duntroon, and the US Foreign Service Institute.[2] He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy in Sydney.[1][3]

In recent years, he has authored pathbreaking studies addressing linkages between climate change and international security.[5]

Dupont was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for "distinguished service to the international community through security analysis and strategic policy development".[6]
